Welcome to the Balimo College
Balimo College is an educational facility located in Newtown, Balimo, Middle Fly District, Western Province. Balimo College is a tertiary institute and currently offers the pre-service Diploma of Primary Teaching. Balimo College is also a registered FODE sub centre with the National Department of Education and National FODE and offers a matriculation pathway for early school leavers to gain entry into the tertiary institution.
Balimo College’s vision is to advance Western Province by providing high-quality teaching, research and community engagement. The institute will foster pathways of teachers and health workers who are committed to improving access to vital services in Western Province. Balimo College will be a safe and supportive place for graduates and other professionals across the Western Province catchment region to return for life-long learning and ongoing professional development. The College will develop a community of education and health professionals committed to innovation, excellence and community advancement; by being the training College of choice for Papua New Guineans.
Balimo College delivers high-quality teaching and active learning, practical work experience, research to foster critical thinking, and pathways to employment for teachers and health workers for Western Province. Balimo College’s mission is to meet the education and health needs of Western Province and to produce and support highly skilled graduates who contribute positively to their community and the Province. Balimo College utilises technology innovations, cross-cultural and cross-institutional connections, and works with industry and community partners to deliver a high-quality teaching and learning program. It produces research that is meaningful to the community to lead advancements in education and health in the Province.
Balimo College is recognised as a Higher Education Institute by the National Higher Technical Education Board of the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST). This recognition has been granted in accordance with the provisions of the Higher Education (General Provisions) Act 2014, as amended in 2020, under Section 14(1)(i) and 55(4)(a).
