Statement: Passing of a Student

It is with deep sadness that we confirm the unexpected passing of one of our students, Pawati Bikanes, on 13 September 2025, while in residence at Balimo College’s boarding facility.

Pawati (37), from Morehead, was a first-year student at the School of Teaching and a student from our Foundation and FODE programs. He was a valued member of our college community, known for his kindness, academic commitment, and contribution to campus life. This loss is deeply felt by students, staff, and the College community alike.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Pawati’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Our thoughts are with them during this incredibly difficult time.

In the wake of this tragedy, Balimo College is working closely with students, staff, and community members to provide care and support during this time of mourning. Counselling and support services have been made available to all students and staff affected by this tragedy. We encourage anyone in need to reach out through the available channels.

As a community, we mourn together and will continue to support one another in the days ahead.
